Our team consists of leaders who are at the forefront of innovation in the respective industries of medicine, pharmaceutical development, agriculture, clinical research, and finance who believe cannabis is the next frontier in medicine.
Dr. Segal completed his undergraduate studies at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York where he attended an accelerated biomedical program and received a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Shortly thereafter, he received a medical doctorate from Albany Medical College in Albany, New York and went on to complete a residency and internship program in Psychiatry at the University of Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital. His post-residency training included a two-year fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry, at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, and he has since received a Master of Business Administration from the University of Miami. Dr. Segal is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Diplomate of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Diplomate of the American Board of Addiction Medicine.
Dr. Segal has an extensive background in psychodynamic psychotherapy, pain management, psychopharmacology, addiction medicine, and eating disorders, as well as the evaluation and treatment of child and adolescent disorders. He has served as the medical director of several hospitals and treatment facilities and has developed innovative delivery systems that improve healthcare quality and lower costs. He serves as a consultant to many hospitals, group practices, and behavioral health organizations. He currently serves as the Medical Director of Larkin Hospital PHP and the Lotus Day Treatment Program, and sits on advisory boards of several area hospitals and insurance companies. Furthermore, Dr. Segal is involved with the design and implementation of Compass Health Systems’ pharmacy (Medz-Direct), and high complexity Laboratory Services. Dr. Segal’s research is conducted throughout South Florida in Segal Trials’ North Miami, Hollywood, and East Ft. Lauderdale locations.
Dr. Segal specializes in most areas of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric research. Since 1998 he has served as a principal and subinvestigator on over 400 phase I-IV clinical research trials. As a principal investigator, he has conducted clinical trials for a wide array of indications including ADHD, Alzheimer's disease, anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, depression, PTSD, sleep disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders, and substance abuse. In addition, he has served as sub investigator for a number of women’s health studies.
Dale Van Steenberg will be acting as Chief Financial Officer for Green Acres Apothecary. Dale is a serial entrepreneur and merchant banker who has successfully bought, ran and sold billion dollar companies in a variety of industries. Currently, he is the CFO for all of Dr. Segal’s medical operations, including Segal Institute, Segal Clinical Trials, MedzDirect, Ingenious Personalized Medicine, and Compass Health Systems.
Phillip Rucks will be the Master Grower for Green Acres Apothecary. Phillip is the premier citrus grower in the state of Florida, producing and supplying 80% of the state’s citrus plants. On his farms, he has a cloning and genetic culturing lab and is tasked by the State of Florida to hold all citrus mother plants, to protect the industry. In addition, Rucks is working in collaboration with the University of Florida to develop new genetic strains of plants that are better suited to the state of Florida.
Phillip Rucks, founder of Phillip Rucks Citrus Nursery, is a native of Polk County, Florida and a graduate of Frostproof High School. Phillip graduated from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida and has over twenty-five years of experience managing and developing three modern, high-tech citrus nurseries including operations for Becker Groves of Ft. Pierce, Florida and Jack M. Berry, Inc of LaBelle, Florida. He has owned and operated Phillip Rucks Citrus Nursery, Inc. in Frostproof, Florida for the last fourteen years. Phillip Rucks innovative efforts in the area of improved nursery practices and standards have become a model for the citrus industry.
Phillip has served as President of the Florida Nursery Growers and Landscape Association (FNGLA) Citrus Nursery Division and served as President of the Florida Citrus Nurserymen’s Association (FNCA). During his tenure he successfully led a campaign that united the Florida Citrus Nursery Industry to implement mandatory budwood programs to protect the industry form graft-transmissible diseases and prohibit the movement of trees containing severe Tristeza virus strains.
Phillip Rucks maintains a high level of personal commitment and a relentless focus on quality and integrity that serve as the core values for one the largest and most efficient citrus nurseries in the world. Over the last twenty years he directed his efforts at developing a self-sufficient, self-contained nursery by establishing plant supportive material including registered high yielding seed and budwood blocks. A screened insect-proof mother budwood house constructed in 2002 supports a disease-free quality citrus tree. To insure future protection a state-of-the-art laboratory houses tissue cultures for the most popular citrus, peach and eucalyptus rootstocks.
